Parallax Center, Inc.
“It is a serious disease and needs to be treated with the same care, treatment, and respect as other life-threatening diseases.
The stigma of addiction disorder remains an ongoing challenge in treatment and recovery.”
- Dr. David M. Ockert
Parallax Center was founded by David Ockert, in 1984 to address the absence of medically-progressive outpatient substance abuse treatment services in New York City for individuals in early recovery. One of the first free-standing outpatient treatment programs on the East Coast, its goals are to reduce the need for hospitalization and to offer a seamless, structured step-down program following inpatient treatment. Ambulatory Detoxification, medical stabilization and pharmacologic supports.
Dr. Ockert was a tireless advocate for those facing substance use challenges, fighting to change the narrative around this serious health condition. He believed that substance use should be treated with the same care, respect, and urgency as any other life-threatening health condition.
We remember his dedication to ending the stigma surrounding substance use and his tireless efforts to champion compassionate treatment for all. Dr. Ockert's legacy reminds us that substance use is a health condition, not a moral failing. We must continue to advocate for evidence-based treatment and support for those in need.
