DETOX: Treating the entire patient Recognizing that, to be successful, treatment must address each patient's drug-related social, psychological and biological problems the Parallax Center uses an integrated, neurobehavioral approach. Its individually structured relapse prevention program is based on the patient's therapeutic needs and ability to function at each stage of the abstinence syndrome - with one professional responsible for coordinating the treatment priorities as a patient's problems change throughout the process. Group and individual treatment sessions using behavioral, cognitive and insight-oriented psychotherapy techniques, are combined by the Parallax Center into a dynamic array of treatment that is uniquely suited to each patient. Medication is also used to relieve withdrawal symptoms and alleviate cravings. Following withdrawal, when the depression and anxiety associated with protracted abstinence are ameliorated with medication, patients are more able to utilize the relapse prevention treatment program. This, in turn, encourages emotional change to help maintain abstinence and desired behaviors. |
